Noel Hiyamizu (b. 1997) is a Japanese composer widely recognized for his contemporary works, including numerous pieces for Japanese instruments. He earned his Master’s degree in Composition at Tokyo University of the Arts, honing a distinctive approach to sound design defined by vivid colors, crystalline textures, and the natural timbres of traditional Japanese performance practices.

At the core of Hiyamizu’s artistic vision is the exploration of post-apocalyptic themes and the intricacies of modern internet society, channeled through a nuanced blend of humor and pop sensibility. His major works include Not Found for orchestra—finalist for the 30th Akutagawa Yasushi Suntory Award for Composition—Hallucination for chamber orchestra (commissioned by the Izumi Sinfonietta), and Nostalgie Fragile for wind ensemble. One of his compositions was selected as boarding music for AirJapan, a member of the ANA Group.

Hiyamizu’s commitment to both contemporary and cross-cultural musical expression has earned acclaim in academic and professional circles alike. He currently serves as a part-time lecturer at Showa University of Music and Showa Junior College of Music, where he mentors emerging composers and performers while pursuing his own creative work.
